Checkpoint: A Jedi Survivor Story was a partnership with a friend of mine, Wes Hamilton - who is passionate about the Star Wars universe.
Wes had an idea and a script for a short film inspired in the Star Wars theme, and I was happy to team up in a project that involved a crew of 17 people - most of them film production students, who worked incredibly hard to bring this short film to life.
Even though I directed the movie, there is no doubt Wes put his heart in the project. "
Checkpoint" was produced, written and edited by Wes. He also plays Cal in the film.
To achieve the cinematic visuals I was after, I insisted to shoot the movie with anamorphic Lenses. We end up shooting the movie with several Sirui Manual Focus Anamorphic Lenses::35mm, 75mm, 135mm. Lenses were provided by Manatee Technical College.
Wes convinced me to film Checkpoint, and I convinced him to join me in the SkillUSA video competition. "Checkpoint" turned out to receive praise and thousands of views on Youtube, and we ended up winning the SkillsUSA competition in Florida, with both of us being awarded the Gold Medal in the best tv commercial category.
